Wildflower Seed Invitations

In honor of Earth Day today, I thought that I'd share about an awesome company that our very own Laurel & Elm couple Haeley & Mike used for their invitations last fall!

Screen Shot 2016-04-22 at 3.19.10 PM.png

Forever Fiances is an online stationery provider that prints wedding invitations on recycled paper embedded with wildflower seeds! You can actually plant their invitations in soil and water them until they grow into wildflowers. How cool is that? They also just added paper embedded with herbs so that you can even grow basil, oregano, thyme, parsley and chives too!

Check out some of their different paper options below and then head to their website and see all of the beautiful designs OR upload your own!

I love the idea of couples and their guests remembering their wedding with these plants!

10% Off Styling + Design

Calling all detail loving brides! Today I spent some time talking about my business and taking part in a fun interview with Brittani Elizabeth Photography (more to come on that later!). Sometimes I think that it takes saying things out loud for them to actually register and today I've been talking an awful lot about how much I'd love to draw more attention to the styling + design aspect of my business!

When I first opened Laurel & Elm, the only package that included styling + design was my full service planning package. Many customized packages later, I realized that I should offer the option of styling and design services separately from full service planning - and without that same price tag too!

So, in an effort to grow the part of my business that I truly love most, I'm offering 10% off my Styling + Design package if you book before April 30th!

Screen Shot 2016-04-15 at 6.55.51 PM.png

Here's some of what the package includes:

  • Conceptual development and complete event design including ceremony, cocktail hour and reception
  • A detailed design proposal including theme, colors, style and completely customized wedding design ideas for your event from start to finish
  • Vendor recommendations within your style and budget
  • Sourcing and ordering of all all event decor to be styled at your event
  • Management of vendor relationships for design-related vendors
  • A detailed set-up timeline
  • DIY project planning and assembly
  • Styling on site before your event and cleaning up afterwards
  • A venue walk-through at your ceremony and reception sites
  • Unlimited phone and email communication as always!

Head on over to the Contact page and tell me about yourself for all the details and pricing! I can't wait to meet you!

Pantone Inspiration Featured on Junebug Weddings!

Back in February, the extremely talented Lauren Griffin of Trousseau Style invited me to be a part of a styled shoot she had planned at Front and Palmer, one of the most BEAUTIFUL venues in Philly! Rose Quartz and Serenity, Pantone's "colors of the year" for 2016 were the inspiration behind this shoot and Lauren did such a beautiful job featuring this pastel duo with a dark and moody venue! The romantic chandelier lighting along with the rich texture of the floors and exposed walls made for a more serious and romantic take on these light and airy colors!

I was thrilled to be able to style all of these details working along side an amazing team of vendors! Check out the talent who contributed to this Junebug feature last week and some of my favorite photos below!

DIY Calligraphy Glasses

Hey there DIYers!

Recently, I've been working on calligraphing some champagne glasses for an upcoming photoshoot that I'm styling for my good friend Tina, so I thought I'd share some behind the scenes tips!

For those of you with awful handwriting - don't worry! All you need to make these look gorgeous is a printer and a steady hand!

Step one

Type all of your guests' names into a Word Document in your favorite font, leaving enough room to cut around each name. It's helpful if you type the names in a dark color so that they will be easy to read. For this project I had thirteen names, so I spread them apart between two documents. Once you have your names set up, press print!

step two

Cut out all of the names and tape them to the inside of each glass. I put tape on both ends of the name and one in the middle, making sure the paper was as close to the glass as it could be without any bubbles.

Step three

Using a glass paint marker (I used this one from Michael's!) trace each of the names. The biggest thing to keep in mind is that when you are moving your hand downward, the line should be thicker (so apply more pressure) and when you're moving your hand upward the line should be thinner (so move quickly)!

Now pull the taped paper out of the glass and enjoy!

Talk to you soon!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Happy St. Patrick's day everyone! It's no secret that greenery and gold details are some of our favorites at Laurel & Elm, so today we are sharing some of our best unintentional St. Patty's day inspiration!

Bright + Modern Vow Renewal Inspiration Featured on Style Me Pretty!

Today I'm sharing some happy and colorful vow renewal inspiration that was featured on Style Me Pretty's main page yesterday! For those of you who aren't constantly stalking top wedding blogs like I am - Style Me Pretty has smaller regional blogs that I'm thrilled to have been featured on before (check out Touch of Boho Jewel Toned Wedding Inspiration and Beautiful Pennsylvania Wedding at Michener Art Museum!) but their main page is MUCH harder to be featured on since it reaches nationally + beyond!

One of the business goals I set for myself for 2016 was to have work featured on the main page of Style Me Pretty this year so imagine how happy I was to find out both my Glamorous Woodsy Winter Wedding Inspiration and now this Bright + Modern Vow Renewal Inspiration landed on the main page! I'm pretty much the happiest planner ever right now :) Check out the feature HERE!

When designing this inspiration, my good friend Tina (Tina Jay Photography) and I decided we were getting tired of muted colors this winter and wanted to do something bright and happy to make us feel like Spring was on the way! You'd never know from Tina's beautiful photos but this all took place on the day of the Jonas Blizzard. Pretty ironic right?

Thanks to the following vendors who braved the storm and got this wrapped up just in time to be snowed in for the weekend!

Venue: The Bond | Photography: Tina Jay Photography | Event Design + Coordination: Laurel & Elm | Cake: The Couture Cakery | Rentals: Party Rental LTD | Floral: Foster’s Flower Shop | Hair: Leann Foust of Mood Swings Salon
Makeup: Veronique’s Creative Artistry | Stationery: Laurel & Elm | Tulle Skirt: Welcome to Royalty | Headpiece: Kristin Perry

Check out some of my favorite photos below:

Besides the color scheme - these chair "place cards" were my first idea! I just love how they look on Party Rental Ltd's Miro Chairs!

I love how Marcy heard my bright vision and just ran with it. The florals were incredible!

I actually "designed" the chair labels, invitations and menus myself for this shoot and it was so much fun! I am NOT a graphic designer - I can basically make words and shapes - but it's something I'd love to get better at! For right now, these triangles were right up my alley ;)

Jasmine took my invitation design and made a geometric inspired cake right from my designs! She is amazing.

Introducing Sam, Chris + Natalie aka the cutest family EVER:

Happy Friday everyone!

Southern Destination Wedding - Kristi & Tom

Today I’m sharing Kristi and Tom’s classic, southern wedding! Kristi and Tom were married in May of 2015 but sometimes you have to keep the best things a secret for a while! It totally paid off because their wedding was just published in Alabama Weddings Magazine’s 15th Anniversary Edition which came out on January 1st! (Click here to read more about the feature!)

This wedding was Laurel & Elm’s first destination wedding and it was so much fun to do something different!  Kristi and Tom met in their high school gym class about 10 years ago, so this wedding was long awaited by the many people who traveled down from Philly to see them finally tie the knot in the south!

On top of all of the beautiful details, Kristi and Tom’s wedding day had the BEST weather for an outdoor wedding. As you can imagine, even in May, Alabama can get HOT. Their wedding day was a “cold” day in Alabama which means comfortable for Philadelphians :)

I’m going to walk you all through the day because there are just too many details not to talk about! A special thank you to Green Tree Photography for capturing their day so beautifully in all of these photos!

0K1B1573.jpg

Even though the majority of the wedding was outdoors – the inside of Anderson Gail Farms had some of the most beautiful, classic details that made for a PERFECT backdrop for detail shots – my favorite :)

I just loved how these invitations turned out – Minted did such a nice job and worked through rounds of custom changes with us so that the invitations were exactly as we had planned!

Kristi's Maggie Sottero gown was perfect for her. Pair that with Tom's black tux and you've got yourself a classy affair!

Kristi and Tom decided to have a First Look, which I strongly suggest for every couple still on the fence about this. The irony of your wedding day is that on a day that’s all about the two of you, you will barely have any alone time together. Having a First Look allows you to spend some time together before all of your guests are pulling you in different directions AND it allows you more time for photos!

After their first look, all of the guests arrived for the ceremony! Two of my favorite details of the day were this Guestbook Globe (Guestglobe?) and these custom hankerchiefs that served as ceremony programs that we designed to match Kristi & Tom’s invites! Southern hospitality at its finest.

Kristi and Tom had an intimate ceremony at the front of the house.

Afterwards, everyone headed in through the house and out back for cocktail hour, corn hole (with custom boards and bean bags of course) and a cigar bar.

ASP_7740.jpg

These key escort cards are actually bottle openers too! Such a fun favor!

This was my first attempt at calligraphy! These place card stones added a personal touch while doubling as paperweights. Dinner outside was a little windy so this ended up being the perfect stylish solution to holding those napkins and personalized thank you cards down!

Tom actually made these custom corn hole boards for the wedding with their new monogram "L" on them!

After lots of dancing, Kristi surprised Tom with fireworks to end their night! What a great gift!

0K1B2069.jpg

I hope you all enjoyed their wedding as much as I did! Congratulations Kristi and Tom! Thank you for trusting us to design and plan your wedding!

Don't Forget These Wedding Day Details!

After months and months of planning, hundreds of invitations and hotel welcome bags stuffed and countless purchases leading up to your wedding day, what is the best way to get the biggest return on all of your investments? By having it professionally photographed of course!

Glamorous Woodsy Winter Wedding Inspiration Featured on Style Me Pretty's Main Page!

I'm extremely excited to share these photos today because this is Laurel & Elm's first time on Style Me Pretty's main page! I'm lucky enough to have been featured twice on Style Me Pretty's Mid-Atlantic blog (check out Touch of Boho Jewel-Toned Wedding Inspiration & Beautiful Pennsylvania Wedding at Michener Art Museum while you're at it!) but this is my first time ever on their national blog!

Edited - Winter Film Styled Shoot-0018.jpg

Check out the Style Me Pretty feature HERE!

Designing something to be on the main page of Style Me Pretty was one of my business goals for 2016 so needless to say, I am over the moon to see it happen in just February! It's truly such an honor to have my dream career and hard work validated by such a huge publication and it never would have happened without all of the hard work of these lovely ladies!

Photography: Brianna Wilbur Photography | Floral Design: Splints & Daisies | Wedding Dress: Jillian Fellers | Cake: The Pennsylvania Bakery | Hair & Makeup: The Bonafide Ginger | Stationery: Dove House Handmade | Faux Fur Shawl: Davie & Chiyo | Flatware + Glassware: Anthropologie | Place cards: Ever Laser Design | Vintage Rentals: Swoon Vintage Rental

The concept of this shoot started with Swoon Vintage Rental's gold upholstered chairs and I built from there!

I really wanted to end the taboo around mixing metals and show that it CAN be done - if it's done well - so I carefully chose a specific shade of silver (more of a metallic gun metal gray than a sterling silver).  The yellow and brown details complimented the gold and the different shades of gray complimented the silver. Bringing out the different tones in both metallics in all of these little details helped to soften the contrast between the two. Of course, Anthropologie had the perfect flatware and glassware to feature my ideal color palette. What doesn't Anthropologie have?

Dove House Handmade contributed some of the most beautiful stationery I've ever seen. Also, how unique are those laser cut place cards by Ever Laser? Seriously, check out both of their businesses. They're extremely talented!

Edited - Winter Film Styled Shoot-0027.jpg

The Pennsylvania Bakery 100% nailed my winter dessert vision. Toasted marshmallow cake, s'mores cookies and hot cider galore!

Next up are these luscious florals by Splints & Daisies, dress by Jillian Fellers, hair and makeup by The Bonafide Ginger and the rest of my favorite shots!

I hope you enjoyed these details as much as I did! It never hurts when you have a supermodel bride and groom either right?!

We'll be there to set it all up and style it to perfection so that all of your guests can enjoy being GUESTS!

Kristi + Tom's Southern Destination Wedding Published!

I'm so excited because I JUST got my hands on this magazine all the way from Alabama! Last May, we had the pleasure of designing Laurel & Elm's first destination wedding! Kristi and Tom's wedding was filled with southern charm and ended with a firework show! The whole day was such a dream and took place at the most beautiful, classic venue. Huge thanks to Alabama Wedding Magazine for the gorgeous feature in their 15th Anniversary Edition!

2424 Studios Philadelphia Wedding - Natalie & Ronnie

Want to see what kind of wedding happens when BOTH the bride and the groom are artists? Look no further! Natalie and Ronnie DIY'd almost every single part of their wedding and it was such an honor to be able to coordinate all of their gorgeous details the weekend of their wedding so that they could relax after all of their hard work and just enjoy being the bride and groom :) On top of all of their talents, these two are the most adorably sweet and fun couple and it really shows in their photos captured by the amazing Autumn Kern

Check out some of my favorite photos of their wedding day below! I'm sharing a ton because there are just too many details and too many cute moments not to!

Copper + Merlot Inspiration Featured on Wedding Chicks!

Yesterday was such an exciting day because our copper and merlot inspiration shoot was featured on Wedding Chicks! If you didn't see the publication, check it out HERE!

This shoot was SO much fun for me for multiple reasons. First of all, I got to work on the shoot from day one with one of my close friends, Tina of Tina Jay Photography, and she made the whole process a dream! We have a very similar style, so our vision for this shoot was always so clear from the beginning! I also got to meet so many new gifted creatives throughout the process and got to knock a couple of items off my wedding design bucket list - like those calligraphed wine glasses!

A huge thank you to these extremely talented ladies who made this shoot possible and helped bring my vision to life:

Photography: Tina Jay Photography | Venue: The Vineyard at Hershey | Catering: JDK Catering | Floral Design: Wildflowers by Design | Cake + Desserts: The Couture Cakery | Calligraphy: Belles Lettres Calligraphy | Rentals: Swoon Vintage Rentals + Barnes Farm Tables | Hair + Makeup: Veronique's Creative Artistry | Dress: Adrianna Papell | Ring: Trumpet & Horn | Ring Box: The Mrs. Box

New Year New Goals!

Happy New Year everyone! In the spirit of making 2016 my best year yet, I'm setting some goals for Laurel & Elm that I'm really going to do my best to stick to! Check them out and hold me accountable :)

Blogging

I started off with an easy one as I am accomplishing this right now! I want to be WAY more consistent with blogging, so I've already planned out the next month to stay on track! My goal is to incorporate product finds, DIY tutorials and new favorite trends along with Laurel & Elm weddings! So, my first goal of 2016 is to blog once a week - CHECK!

Instagram

As crazy as it sounds, Instagram has been one of my biggest business assets this year! I've gotten some wonderful clients and made the sweetest friends in the wedding industry just by posting photos! So this year I want to post 5 times a week and see where that takes me! If you aren't already following along, let's be friends! Check out the Laurel & Elm instagram HERE!

calligraphy

This one is ambitious. Calligraphy is something that I've always been dying to learn but have had absolutely no training in. I think it's something that could be SO helpful to my clients in the long run, plus I just love seeing weddings with cohesive place cards, bar signs and calligraphed details galore! I tried brush calligraphy for the first time for one of my couples earlier this year and had SO much fun! I think with (lots of) practice, this could be a helpful service to offer clients! Here's my first attempt at place card stones below:

philadelphiaweddingplanner

Let me know if you'd like some practice snail mail :)

Design-only package

Last, but certainly not least - in a few weeks I'll be introducing a new Laurel & Elm package that will allow you to select design-only services! Full custom design is included in my larger packages, but this package is targeted for those who might not be looking for full service coordination along with it! Stay tuned for more information :)

Hopefully everyone's new years resolutions are going well! Day 6!

Jewel Toned Styled Shoot on Style Me Pretty!

Yesterday was such a fun day! Our jewel toned styled shoot that took place in October was featured on Style Me Pretty! Being published on Style Me Pretty is always such a HUGE honor, but I was especially excited about this one because of how ridiculously hard every single contributor of this styled shoot worked to make it so gorgeous! Check out the feature HERE!

You would never know, but it was pouring rain ALL DAY LONG the day of the shoot. The end result looks glamorous (thanks to Brianna), but the behind the scenes look? Not so much! It's safe to say that Brianna and I would still drive a pick up truck filled with tarp-covered furniture through a thunderstorm with cakes on our lap all over again to recreate this much prettiness though. And this just goes to show that even if it DOES rain on your wedding day, it can still be magical - especially with the help of these creatives:

Photography: Brianna Wilbur Photography | Venue: Venue Chilton | Florals: Petals With Style | Wedding Dress: Anna Campbell | Bridal Boutique: Lovely Bride | Cake: The Bakers Table | Bride's Shoes: Badgley Mischka | Hair and Makeup: The Bonafide Ginger | Calligraphy: Susie Herwig | Chocolate Pyramids: Over The Moon Sweets | Place Cards: Everthine Designs | Rentals: Party Rental Limited | Antique Rentals: Treasured Rentals | Cinematography: Matt Stambaugh Media

John James Audubon Center Wedding - Haeley & Mike

Today I'm excited to share photos from Haeley & Mike's wedding at John James Audubon Center!

Haeley and Mike are one of the sweetest couples you'll ever meet. Seriously. Every single vendor working their wedding made a point to comment on how genuinely caring they both are and how much they'd loved getting to know them. It was one of those weddings where you could see that every single one of their guests felt the same. Their florist even surprised Haeley by hanging spanish moss from the tree at their ceremony, which was her dream! It pays to be nice, people ;)

Couples like Haeley and Mike remind me of why I opened Laurel & Elm. I LOVE organizing, scheduling and styling, but working with amazing people who are so in love completes the package.

All of the photos below were taken by Sarah and Dan of AGP Collective. If you are in need of a wedding photographer, check out Sarah's recent blog post about finding the best fit for you! I love Sarah's honesty and dedication to providing the best client/photographer relationship. Sarah is just ONE of the cool people that I've been lucky enough to know from Haeley & Mike's wedding. Check out the others who contributed to this special day below:

Mike, Haeley, Emma and Gavin, thank you for allowing me to be a part of your family's special day! Wishing you all a lifetime of happiness together!

Donating Your Wedding Dress to Help Others

Is your wedding dress just hanging in your closet? Probably. Is your daughter going to want to wear your wedding dress thirty years from now? Probably not. Many brides wonder what they're supposed to do with their wedding dress after their wedding is over, so I've put together a list of some AMAZING charities that do so much more than that fancy dress hanger ever will!

1. The Bridal Garden

The Bridal Garden is the ONLY non-profit bridal boutique in New York City. They accept donated, previously worn wedding dresses and re-sell them for 75% of the original retail cost. All of the proceeds support the education of disadvantaged New York children through their partnership with the Brooklyn Charter School. Together, they work to create more efficient relationships between home and school learning through child care, new classroom techniques and after school programs. Donate here.

2. NICU Helping Hands Angel Gown Program

The Angel Gown Program's volunteer seamstresses use the material from your wedding dress to sew beautiful burial dresses for infants who pass away during birth or during their hospital stay. Many hospitals stock the Angel Gown Program's dresses for families in need. Otherwise, families can also request gowns directly through the program. The Angel Gown Program has various donation periods throughout the year, and I was so happy to see that they reached full capacity within 5 minutes of their donation opening this week! Check back here for their next donation cycle!

3. Adorned in Grace

Adorned in Grace is a bridal boutique in Portland, Oregon. All of the sales associates are volunteers and the retail space is donated so that every dollar can support Abolition Now, an organization that raises awareness and funds for the prevention of sex trafficking and support for its victims. Donate here.

4. Brides Across America

Brides Across America is an organization dedicated to giving back to U.S. Military families. In addition to financially supporting servicemen and women with post traumatic stress, wounded warriors and veteran employment, Brides Across America provides military brides with your donated wedding dress free of cost! Donate here.

5. Wish Upon a Wedding

Wish Upon a Wedding is a non-profit organization that grants weddings to couples who are facing a serious illness or life-altering circumstance. Partnered with Brides for a Cause , you can donate your wedding dress to one of these deserving couples! Click here for more information.
